When I connected it to an external monitor it worked that way. It was probably something to do with a driver. I just did a system restore. I tried updating the drivers (uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, etc.). Also tried rolling back (not available). Also tried disable and re-enable a few times. Rebooted, etc. All of the above in various combinations. Microsoft is not helpful.
That happened to me on an Asus laptop aswell, it fixed itself after some reboots in which all I did was navigate to the shutdown button using the keyboard. I'm guessing windows update did something about it on its own. Try rebooting 2~3 times if the laptop is connected to the internet, otherwise connect it first and let windows update do its thing.
